YARD in EL Prat, Barcelona

Escalera caracol exterior en El Prat de Barcelona

This space between walls and paved, presented few opportunities for the introduction of vegetation. Inspired by the somewhat daring architecture of the house, we configured a set of wood and gravel pavements that, towards the back, leave the concrete of the courtyard visible. We have cut out flowerbeds that host a vegetation that adapts to the particular characteristics of each piece, very variable due to the shadows of the courtyard walls.

The gravel strips between pieces of decking add rhythm and attractiveness to the corridor, which with the cross cuts seems to lose depth. The rhythm is reinforced with matching pots planted with rounded boxwoods, very geometric.

The flowerbeds have been designed following the expansion joints in the concrete. In this way, everything is coherent and there are no extraneous lines in the courtyard design.
