GARDEN IN L’EMPORDÀ

The challenge was to transform a very elongated agricultural farm into a useful and welcoming garden, taking advantage of the potential of the surrounding landscape and preserving the rustic character of the property.
We divided the space into three areas: an area dedicated to the cultivation of fruit trees, another open and naturalized area and the central area, next to the house with the functional elements: terraces, porches, swimming pool, shaded areas and meadows.
We use handmade materials such as handmade bricks, lamps made with recovered railway sleepers, fruit crates and even the construction of a pergola based on agricultural posts and meshes. The pool was built slightly raised like a traditional pool, minimizing the entry of leaves and dirt carried by the wind (the property is very exposed to the north wind).
The combination of multiple plant species makes it possible to prolong blooms from late winter to late fall. In addition to encouraging year-round use of the garden, it contributes to increasing the biodiversity of the area and is consistent with a natural transitional landscape. The shrub screens conceal the less pleasant elements of the surroundings, but open up to reveal the neighboring fields and blend in with the trees of the neighboring farms and roads.
